There are more kinds of writing jobs out there than you might think. Before you start on your journey, you should look at what's available and figure out what best suits you.

What kinds of writing jobs are there?

From a lazy Google search:

  • Copywriting

  • Technical writer

  • Website content writer

  • Journalist

  • Editor

  • Social Media Manager

  • Blogger

  • Grant writer

  • Proofreader

  • Author

  • Business writer

  • Communications Officer

  • CV writing

  • Freelance Writer

  • Medical writing

  • Public Relations

  • Screenwriting

  • Ghostwriting

  • Academic writing

  • Ghostwriter

  • Marketing

  • Proposal writer

  • Translator

  • Travel writer

These are just the main ones, and each has its own variations. There are endless options.

You'll probably want to focus on one or two main fields because they all require slightly different skills and you can't be an expert in everything.

But which one should I choose?

Look at the list of careers above and do some research on each of them. Find out what that career looks like from someone who's in it. They might not be anything like what you expect.

In the end, you want to find the one that best suits your interests and personality.
